COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• What is therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage is a general term that describes any type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress and work on a specific problem, such as frozen shoulder.” The goal f therapeutic massage is to promote homeostasis, the body’s ability to maintain balance throughout. Masage assists the body by affecting the circulatory, lymphatic and other systems.
• What are the benefits f therapeutic massage?
Receiving a massage once a month will:
• Reduce stress and anxiety.
• Improve sleep.
• Reduce pain and inflammation.
• Lower blood pressure.
• Improve circulation.
• Increase range of motion.
• Boost the immune system.
• Who can benefit from therapeutic massage?
Everyone!
Blissful Nirvana’s youngest client was six months old, while the oldest was 101 years young. It is never too early or too late for your first massage.
Clients are helped with managing numerous conditions and diseases, including fibermyalgia, migraines, chronic pain, TMJ, plantar fascitis, tendonitis, bursitis, sciatica, frozen shoulder and high blood pressure.
While massage cannot “cure” chronic disease or neurological disorders, it can help manage symptoms. Blissful Nirvana clients have found massage to help reduce rigidity of Parkinson’s Disease, reduce spasticity of multiple sclerosis, reduce pressure from Chiari malformation, reduce side effects of cancer treatment and improve circulation in paralyzed limbs.
• Do I need a release from my doctor?
Yes, if:
• You have cancer.
• You have had a recent surgery or injury.
• You have had a heart attack or stroke in the past year.
It is important to let your physicians know that you are receiving massage so they can monitor and adjust your prescription medications accordingly. Blissful Nirvana has had many clients lower their blood pressure through massage, resulting in a reduction or elimination of prescription medications.
Never reduce or cease medications without first consulting your doctor.
• Do you really need to know all the medications I am taking?
Yes.
Massage can lower your blood pressure after one session, making you feel a little light-headed. Your therapist needs to know so he or she can assist you off of the table if necessary and ensure you enough time to stabilize before leaving.
Massage promotes circulation, which could result in medicine entering the blood stream more quickly than usual, especially when the medicine is administered through syringe (such as insulin).
Pain medication may reduce sensation, inhibiting the ability to give feedback on pressure given during a massage. Your therapist needs to be aware of that.
Blissful Nirvana Massage also offers an ionic foot bath detox. This is a 25-minute session that promotes detox through electrolosis.
Blissful Nirvana is also currently home to Simply Posh Day spa, by esthetician Shannon Smith, offering skin care services such as facials, body wraps and waxing.
“We would like to thank our clients who have made our continued success possible,” Crowl said. “Thank you also to our local network of physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists and other healthcare providers.”
