Josephine Williamson, Pat and Leroy Lassiter, Darrell Colborn and Shirley Puckett of Houston attended the 60th anniversary of the International Country Gospel Music Association annual convention and award show Aug. 6, 7 and 8 at the West Plains Civic Center. There were more than 150 artists from all over the states performing including Chris Golden, son of William Lee Golden, who sings with the Oak Ridge Boys; and Jimmy Snow, son of famous country singer, Hank Snow. The host/president of this event is Dan Duncan, who is a pastor of Promised Land Church located in same facility as the channel 38 TV Studio, in West Plains. During the day, the convention center is open and the artists are showcasing their performance on stage.

Krista Scott of Houston is playing on the Lady Pioneer volleyball team at Crowley’s Ridge College in Paragould, Ark., for the 2016 year as a defensive specialist, No. 2. Scott is a freshman. She is also in the choir with 15 hours on her schedule for the year. The girls played Aug. 29 and 30 in Tennessee and are included in a tournament Sept. 3 and 4. One of her teammates, Katelyn Martinez, is also a Houston graduate and freshman on the team.

A policeman parked his van in front of the station. As he was gathering his equipment, his dog started barking. The policeman looked up to see a puzzled looking little boy.

“Is that a dog you have back there?”

“Yes, it is,” said the policeman.

“What’d he do?” asked the boy.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

The Best Deep Fried Oreos

Serving Size/Yield 45 cookies

Ingredients:

• 2 qt. vegetable oil for frying

• 1 large egg

• 1 C. milk

• 2 tsp. vegetable oil

• 1 C. pancake mix

• 1 pkg. sandwich cookies

Directions:

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat oil to 375°F.

In a bowl, mix together egg, milk, and two teaspoons of oil until smooth. Add pancake mix and stir until no lumps remain.

Dip each cookie in the batter and place in oil. Fry until golden brown. Transfer to paper towel and drain grease. Serve once cooled.
