The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a hunter education skills course Oct. 22 in Texas County.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will conduct a hunter skills class from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 22 at Faith Fellowship in Bucyrus.

The skills class is one of two portions of hunter education required in Missouri, along with a knowledge segment. MDC advises hunters of a few points:

• People born on or after Jan. 1, 1967, must satisfy Missouri’s hunter education requirement before purchasing deer and turkey hunting permits.

• Adults aiding in youth hunts are required to be hunter education certified prior to the hunt.

• Students must be at least 11 years old to participate in the hunter education program.

• Students must complete the knowledge portion of the class prior to attending the skills class. The knowledge portion may be completed online, in a classroom, or by obtaining the Hunter Ed Book from the Houston branch of the Texas County Library and completing the end of chapter review questions prior to attending the skills class.

Faith Fellowship is located four miles west of Houston on Highway 17. For more information, call MDC agents Chris Ely at 417-260-2865 or Jeff Crites at 417-260-2855.
