Members of the Houston City Council met on Monday night.

The Houston City Council approved paperwork Monday to fund its bus system during a meeting Monday night.

The total cost of the outlay is $193,660. Federal funds administered by the Missouri Department of Transportation provides $118,016. The balance — $75,644 — comes from the city’s general funds.

City Administrator Larry Sutton said the city also hopes to gain approval to obtain a new bus under the program. The city rotates using two buses. If successful, the city’s share would be 20 percent of the cost of the vehicle. About 1,500 riders use the system monthly. (The city’s bus service is highlighted in a special news section on senior citizens today on Page S3).

In other matters, members:

—Agreed to review a recently passed ordinance that uses a software package to track items bought at pawn shops. Police can check the database when crimes occur.

—Acknowledged a thank you from Houston’s Imagination Library, which provides a free book monthly to pre-school children in the Houston School District.
