The Houston High School volleyball team got its first conference win and second victory of the season Tuesday night at Salem.
Alyssa Hayes and Brooke McCown had five kills apiece for the Lady Tigers (2-22-1, 1-4 South Central Association). Chloe Hunninghake and Alexis Choate each had seven assists.
“It felt so good to get that win – especially right before districts,” HHS coach Loran Richardson said. “We have had the ability all season, but it’s nice to get the boost of confidence this late in the season. The girls worked hard and deserved that win.”
Last Thursday, a chance to win at home narrowly escaped Houston.The Lady Tigers took the opening set of the match and were serving to do the same in the second. But Skyline stayed alive, forced a third set and won 23-25, 29-27, 25-18.
Emily Shea had nine kills and sophomore Tara Stanton added eight. Hunninghake and Choate had 13 assists apiece. Stanton had four blocks and Sevanna Rowland had four aces.
Houston lost in straight sets last last Tuesday to West Plains.
JUNIOR VARSITY: The Lady Tigers had 18 kills and six aces in a straight sets victory Tuesday at Salem. It was the team’s fourth win of the season.
