Jimmie Dean Scantlin, 59, son of Jimmie and Madine Scantlin, was born Nov. 21, 1956, in Houston, Mo. He passed away Oct. 10, 2016, in West Plains, Mo.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie F. Scantlin, and one brother Bobby Jean Scantlin. He is survived by his mother, Madine Scantlin of Raymondville Mo.; one son, J.R. Scantlin of Licking Mo,; two sisters, Judy Leeder of Willow Springs, Mo., and Donna Wallace of Licking Mo.; two brothers, David Scantlin of Raymondville Mo., and Edgar Scantlin of Raymondville Mo.; and five grandchildren who he loved so very much.

He accepted Christ as Lord and was looking forward to seeing Jesus face to face and being reunited with his family and friends.

Jimmie’s very first job was working with his Dad at a sawmill. He learned so much and continued to do sawmill work after that. He always cherished the time spent working side by side with his Dad. Jimmie served as a storm spotter and fire chief for more than 10 years. He also received a dual bachelor’s degree from Drury University and graduated at the top of his class. He served as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor through Talbot House in Springfield, Mo.

Jimmie loved to spend time with his grandchildren, fish, hunt and especially talk and work on CB Radios, where he was known in the radio world as “Bumperjack.” He loved to watch NASCAR and Larry Phillips, who he admired so much. He was a little on the short side but was always bragged on as to what a great basketball player he was in school. He loved a back porch, a good cup of coffee and great conversation. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
