Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home Chapel

Hazel Mildred McCoy, daughter of the late Henry and Hazel Marie (Starks) Van De Venter, was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, and departed this life Dec. 4, 2016, in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center of Mountain Grove, Mo. She was 88 years of age.

Mildred was raised in Wright County, Mo., and was a Mountain Grove High School graduate with the class of 1945. After graduating, she taught school for two years. She was united in marriage to Henry McCoy on Oct. 25, 1947, in Mountain Grove. Three children were born to this union. Along with raising her family, Mildred worked at Fort Leonard Wood in the civil service for several years.

Mildred enjoyed being outdoors, especially riding her Gator. She also enjoyed spending time on the farm, hosting family and friends and playing pool. She liked taking trips with her family as well. She was a loving mother who was very proud of her family, especially her grandsons, Austin and Nathan.

Mildred was saved and baptized and was a longtime member of the Embree Community Church, where she served as secretary for many years. She had also served as treasurer for the Dutch Chapel Cemetery for many years.

Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McCoy; one son, Dennis McCoy; an infant daughter, Diana McCoy; five brothers; and one sister.

Mildred is survived by one son, Terry McCoy and wife, Sharon, of Lynchburg, Mo.; two grandsons, Austin and Nathan McCoy; one sister, Velva Loy of Albuquerque, N.M.; two nephews, Van McCoy and Dean McCoy, both of Springfield, Mo.; one niece, Marilee Earle of Huddleston, Va.; a cousin: Mary Ann Briggs of Lisbon, Iowa; and a host of relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.

Funeral Services for Hazel Mildred McCoy are 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Wade Perryman and Rev. Edwin Carter will serve as officiants. Special songs will be provided by Joe Golden. Serving as pallbearers will be Matt McCoy, Randy McCoy, Travis McCoy, Nathan McCoy, Austin McCoy and Scott McCoy. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel. Burial will be in the Dutch Chapel Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
