Houston senior Chance Hunter carries the ball in the Tigers' Sept. 30 game against Willow Springs.

Chance Hunter has been named one of the state’s top football players.

Hunter, a Houston High School senior, was named a third team kick returner on the Class 2 Missouri Football Coaches Association all-state team. He is the first HHS football player to receive the honor since 2008.

Hunter returned 15 kickoffs for 449 yards – an average of 29.93 yards per kickoff return. He ran two back for touchdowns – 96 yards against Ava and 92 yards the following week against Willow Springs.

Hunter is the first HHS football player to receive the honor since Kyle Poynter was named a first team kick returner in 2008.
