Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Evans Funeral Home

James Lloyd Kidwell, 73, passed away Dec. 7, 2016, at his home in Yukon, Mo. He was the oldest of five children born to James Hilman and Caroline (Rodenberger) Kidwell on Feb. 24, 1943, at his grandparent’s home in Chicago, Ill. After World War II, he moved with his parents to a farm outside of Abingdon, Ill., then a farm near Avon and lastly a farm outside of London Mills, Ill.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents and a daughter in law, Marites.

He leaves his loving wife of 56 years, Karen; sons, Jim, Dave and wife, Cheryl, and Scott and wife, Jolene; two grandchildren, Jackie and Dylan; and one great-grandson, Wesley.

Jim and Karen Melton were married Sept. 12, 1960. They raised their three sons in Illinois. Jim worked as a supervisor for Gale Products in Galesburg, Ill. In 1980, they decided to move to Yukon, Mo. They moved with a caravan of pigs, chickens, sheep and cats.

Jim was not a man to sit still, so he worked two jobs, as a contract mail carrier and bus driver for Raymondville Schools. He also served as a volunteer on the Ozark Township Board and Neighborhood Watch.

When Jim retired, he and Karen, with two other couples, formed the Texas County Dutch Oven Cookers. They went to many different venues enjoying the cooking, visiting, laughter and fun. The money made was donated to several different organizations: the Texas County Library, Senior Citizens and Christos House.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, who will be missed by the many who knew him.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Evans Funeral Home with Father Matt Rehrauer officiating. Cremation was under the direction of the funeral home.
