Christos House, which serves Texas and Wright counties, has released its statistical numbers from 2016.
The program aided 61 new clients –– 17 men and 44 women –– with a total of 102 children. The clients received parenting classes, advocacy representation with the proper authorities, cell phones, therapy counseling referrals, housing, energy and food needs.
An ongoing program at the Texas County Jail reached 86 female and 56 male inmates. In some cases, the agency worked with family members for networking and accessing resources as well as providing referrals to the Texas County Food Pantry, Pregnancy Resource Center and more. Also provided were parenting classes, study materials, books, funds on canteen accounts for phone cards, hygiene products, required clothing items and information handouts including prevention of domestic violence.
The inmates received letters from the court documenting their attendance and participation in the classes. Christos House, which distributed 120 Bibles, continues to serve inmates upon release as part of the ongoing program. The jail program enters its third year of service in March.
In 2017, Christos House will celebrate 35 years of service to eight counties, including Texas.
