Several members of the Texas County Farm Bureau spent time Feb. 7 at Town and Country Supermarket in Houston serving lemon, cinnamon and chocolate chip cookies as well as peanut butter fudge, coffee and lemonade. They also took memberships, gave information and offered prizes.

Ireatess “Doc” Keeney, Richard Best, Mike Luerssen, Betty Adams and Primrose Casey were present to help celebrate “Thank A Farmer Week.” New members were welcomed, and there was much general conversation related to agriculture and its importance.

Several items were given out. The most anticipated were two $25 grocery gift certificates, one from the store and another from Farm Bureau. Doris Williams of Licking and Joey Garab of Raymondville were the winners.

Organizers extended a “thank you” to all who helped in the celebration, whether it was Farm Bureau participants or people who stopped to visit.

“The farmers’ work is never done, and we all need and enjoy the bounty of their labors. We need to occasionally tell them and let him know how much they are appreciated,” said an organizer.
