Officials of two water districts in Texas County have been notified that the way has been cleared for a Farmers Home Administration grant of about $84,000 to be shared between the two districts. Notification of the grant was given to Charles Adams, president of Water District No. 2 at Oak Hill and Rufus Cavaness, president of Water District No. 1 at Success.

Bill Kaczmarek, football coach at Houston High School, has resigned to accept a coaching position with the Salem Schools. He moved to Houston in 1963 from Osceola. His 1965-’66 squad won a share of the SCA conference title.

A new bridge over the Big Piney River at Slabtown is scheduled for construction.

Lawrence Porter of Thayer announced that a new retail store will open within a few weeks in Houston. It will be known as the “Lucky Dollar Store.” The business will at Pine and First streets.

Dr. Glen Schuster has been elected president of the Houston Saddle Club. Other officers are Gilbert Elmore, vice president; and Mildred Flowers, secretary-treasurer. Board members are John Vandiver, Bob Coats and Ralph Roloson.

Ten men are now located in Houston as the result of funds allocated for resource, conservation and development projects. The SCS office was located in Houston in 1958.

At White Rock, the community club held its annual election. Phyllis Arthur was elected president; Russell Koch, vice president; Doris Douglas, secretary and treasurer; and Walter Douglas, trustee. The same day Jessie Hoeck entertained members of the extension club. Louise Johnson from the Texas County Library presented a program, a film on fire safety.
