Mary Elizabeth Anderson Bittleston, known to friends and relatives as “Betty,” age 90 years old and 9 months, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 23, 2017.
She was born April 5, 1926, in Souix City, Iowa, daughter of Leslie and Dorothy Brooks.
On Nov. 16, 1943, she married Roger V. Anderson in Littleton, Colo. They were married 53 years. To this union were born a daughter, Carol, and a son, Roger D.
From insurance customer service to receptionist office positions, Betty was employed for more than 50 years for different companies in several states. She retired at age 73 from John Brown/Dresser Engineering after 8½ years as a receptionist.
Retirement wasn’t for her then, so after moving to Houston, Mo., she became Houston Senior Center assistant administrator. Three years later she retired again at age 79.
Only a few months later, Betty volunteered in the office of Texas County Food Pantry two days a week until January 2012.
Betty was saved at an early age, serving and enjoying her Church of God fellowship and all her many friends in Houston, Mo. In February 2012, Betty married a second time to her long-time friend, Oliver Bittleston. They spent the last five years of her life in Lewiston, Idaho, living, laughing and loving each other. She became “mom” to five stepchildren and their spouses and “Grandma” to many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Roger V.; her mother and father; sister, Bonnie; and a sister-in-law, Ina Mae Brooks.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Kenneth) Stickens of Houston, Mo.; a son, Roger D. (Cheryl) Anderson of Eire, Penn.; a sister, Billie Lou Brugeman of Connecticut; a sister, Juanita Osborn of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Betty was cremated in Lewiston, Idaho. Burial will be at a later date with Pastors Ron and Marcia Hawland officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Houston Senior Center or Texas County Food Pantry.
