Success Elementary School was recently the recipient of a $11,169 STEM grant (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Success School District officials said they had been working toward the implementation of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for the past several years. During this time, the district invested time and resources in training teachers and improving technology to accommodate the advanced curriculum.
The goal of PLTW is to help students understand that STEM education is relevant in their lives and see potential for future careers. The overarching goal is to increase the ability of the region to attract new jobs and new investment by improving the educational aptitude and achievement of students and competitive position of the school district.
Success School District officials said students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade will receive the benefits of STEM instruction during their scheduled science curriculum. The district plans on extending PLTW to an afterschool program when funds become available.
Missouri University of Science and Technology partnered with the Success School District to increase the number of school districts utilizing PLTW. The appropriation was provided in fiscal year 2017 to help school districts offset costs of these programs and to provide state match for potential federal grant money.
