Bertha Anna Marr Lawrence Martin, 102, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, at Houston House.
She was born July 27, 1914, in Kinderpost, daughter of Frank Lorenza and Anna Catherine Zehnder Marr. She and Robert “Bob” Fitz Lawrence were married Aug. 12, 1937. He passed away in May 1997. She and Robert “Bob” Lee Martin were married Nov. 8, 2003, in Republic. He passed away Feb. 18, 2011.
She grew up near Licking and graduated from Licking High School. They lived in Missouri, Arizona and New Mexico before returning to Houston in the 1940s.
She loved gardening while her sons were growing up. The family liked driving around and exploring the countryside.
She and her husband, Bob, helped start Brown Hill Baptist Church with a Sunday school for the neighborhood kids. Eventually a pastor was added and preaching services began.
She served as deputy recorder of deeds for many years at the Texas County Courthouse. She retired at the age of 81.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; her sisters, Eda Marr Paulson and Barbara Polly Buckner; and her brothers, Ivo Marr, Leo Marr, Franklin Marr and Barrett Marr.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and Paul; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday, March 22, at Evans Funeral Home with Dr. Howell Burkhead and Lynn Gayer officiating. Cremation was under the direction of the funeral home.
