The Houston City Council met Monday at city hall.

The Houston City Council received an update on activities in its park department during a meeting Monday.

Drew Jordan, director, highlighted the recently completed basketball season, which saw revenue up over projections, and the upcoming soccer program. He reported 92 participants. Councilwoman Mary Barnes complimented Jordan on the operation of his department.

In other matters, members:

—Approved an ordinance that sets up procedures for anyone wanting to provide electrical power into the city’s system. Those parties would ultimately negotiate with the firm that supplies Houston’s power.

—Approved writing off $210 in bad tax debt for the 2013 tax year. Collector Tammy Cantrell updated the council. The city contracts with the county for collections, which are up, she said.

—Received an update from City Administrator Larry Sutton, who reported on an exit meeting with the city’s auditors. No problems were uncovered during the routine examination. A formal presentation to the six-member council is expected in late April or early May.

—Learned that the city is formulating its job description for a vacant economic development post.

—Toured newly remodeled police department quarters.

—Set 5:30 p.m. April 17 for a second public hearing on proposed zoning changes along a portion of West Highway 17.
