Some of the future players of the Houston volleyball program stepped on the court to play competitively for the first time Thursday night.
The new elementary league, instituted by HHS head coach Loran Richardson, kicked off inside Hiett Gymnasium with matches against Licking. The sixth-grade red team won 2-1 while the other three teams lost in three sets.
There are 34 elementary girls – 18 in the fourth and fifth grades as well as 16 in the sixth grade – from Houston playing.
“It was our first game of the season, so you could tell there were a lot of nervous girls,” Richardson said. “They are playing hard and continuing to improve.”
Here is the schedule for the rest of the season:
- March 16 vs Raymondville
- March 20 vs Willow Springs
- March 27 vs Cabool
- March 28 vs Success
All matches will begin at 5:30 p.m. inside Hiett Gymnasium. Game times for each grade level will vary depending on how many teams the opponent brings.
