Harvey Lee Ryno, 75, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017.
He was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Blooming Rose, son of Claude and Inez Lee Ryno.
He worked many jobs in his lifetime. He began at age 14 cutting sprouts for 50 cents per day. He later cut logs for $5 per day and eventually worked at a sawmill. After moving to Illinois, he made shingles at the Celatex factory for two years.
He served in Korea with the Marine Corps. He was wounded Nov. 10, 1952. He received a Purple Heart Accommodation after 21 months of service.
Upon discharge, he drove a cab in Fort Leonard Wood for three years. He worked in the Fort Leonard Wood laundry room for a year. He was then a mechanic for Gene Hagler, Ford Motor Co., Ray Chevrolet, Montgomery Ward and Pete McBride.
He also owned his own auto repair shop.
He loved joking and telling hunting or fishing stories. He enjoyed playing sports and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved being outside, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and eventually exploring in his motorized wheelchair.
One of his great joys was whittling. He created fishing jigs and sold them to local businesses for resale. He was known for his SpudR’s Bee Farm, where he sold honey to many local patrons.
He was preceded in death by his parent; three brothers, Bill, Arley, Wendell; and a sister, Jeanie.
Survivors include his wife, Romona; a brother, Howard Ryno; four children, Jerry Ryno, Debra Jett, Jon Wilson, and Stephanie Vincent; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of church family, friends and acquaintances.
Services were Friday, March 10, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Jett officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery.
