Venita Sue Bates, 70, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at her home in Huggins.

She was born July 20, 1946, in Roby, daughter of Elmer and Ruby Wolfe Kimrey. She and Lester Bates were married Aug. 7, 1964, in Roby.

She grew up in the Roby community and graduated from Plato High School in 1963.

She enjoyed being able to stay home and help take care of her grandchildren. She loved being outdoors, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning, fishing and playing volleyball with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Lester Bates of the home; a son, James Bates, of Huggins; a daughter, Penny Cornelison of Huggins; a brother, Murlin Kimrey of Marshall; a sister, Eda Rogers of Lebanon; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

No services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
