Juniors from Houston, Plato and other area high schools competed March 25 in Intercounty Electric’s annual essay competition for a trip to Washington, D.C.
Each school submitted its top three essay writers, with the winner earning the trip to the nation’s capitol and two runners-up receiving trips to a leadership conference in Jefferson City. Each student was interviewed on topics related to Intercounty and rural electric cooperatives in general.
Winners of the D.C. trip included Natalie Caldwell, Houston; April Bean, Plato; Baylee Bilyeu, Salem; Adam Block, Cabool; Hannah Strain, Rolla; Lanie Kirkman, Summersville; Jayden Jordan, Mountain Grove; and Hunter Watson, Saint James.
Winners of the trip to Jefferson City included Grady Todd and Jessica Schivitz, Houston; Rachel Spencer and Mara Freeman, Plato; Skylor Wilson, Licking; Quin Blankenship and Cory Gamblin, Salem; Jessica Rhodes, Cabool; Coleman Brainard, Rolla; Aurora Cote and Sarah Woolsey, Summersville; Brooke Reed, Mountain Grove; and Kennedy Fane and Mackenzie Rodgers, St. James.
