A scary incident had a happy ending for a dog and its owner.
Kylea Lane said her 3-year-old German shepherd mix, Shiloh, was chasing a cat last Thursday afternoon when it became stuck deep in a culvert between two driveways near her home on Bryan Street. The dog was wedged about 50 feet from the opening.
After unsuccessfully attempting to free Shiloh for about an hour, Lane called 911 for help. Police officers accessed the situation and sought assistance from City of Houston workers, who dug a trench with a backhoe and used a firehose to break free the dirt in the culvert.
It only took a few minutes for Shiloh to be freed. The dog backed out of the culvert and into the hands of Lane, who shared a long embrace with the animal.
“I am very grateful and happy that he is out and safe,” Lane said before taking her dog over to meet the men responsible for the rescue.
