Donna Jean Howell, 61, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Mountain View Health Care.

She was born April 18, 1938, in Scotia, Calif., daughter of Alfred Marshall and Cloe Virginia Thompson.

She was the oldest of three children. She grew up in several Pacific Northwest cities as the family followed her father’s job in the lumber industry. As a young woman, she attended one year of Walla Walla College. When she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, her plans to become a nurse had to be changed. She then became involved in banking.

She and her husband, Robert, moved to the Hartshorn area in 1965. She obtained a job at Summersville State Bank.

She worked and raised her family in the area, leaving only once for a brief stay in Anchorage, Alaska, where she worked for FDIC as an auditor during the savings and loan crisis.

She loved to read and spend time with her husband.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Thompson.

Survivors include two children, Brett Howell and Lorri Strider; five grandchildren; four grandchildren; and a brother, Mark Thompson.

Memorial services were Wednesday, April 26, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Boyd and the Rev. Carl Younger officiating.
