Trenton Best, Abby Casper and the Houston High School girls’ 4×100 relay team won track conference championships Tuesday in Salem.

Best topped the field in the 110-meter hurdles and Casper out-sprinted the competition in the 100 in the South Central Association championships. Casper was also a member of the champion relay team with Tori McCloud, Melody Buse and Emily Shea.

Those five HHS athletes were among 12 who earned all-conference honors.

“This was a great meet for us, especially for Abby and Emily,” HHS track coach Tori Richardson said. “Coach (Rodney) Preheim and I are incredibly proud of the hard work the athletes continue to put in and the amount of growth that is shown at each meet.”

Best, a reigning all-state hurdler, ran the 110 hurdles in 15:09. He also finished second in the 300 hurdles at 42.34.

Casper blazed to a time of 12.65 to win the 100. She also ran the final leg of the girls’ 4×100, which won the event in 54.59.

Two HHS relay teams finished third to receive honorable mention all-conference recognition.

The girls’ 4×200 with Shea, Buse, Hubbs and Kameron Hall finished third in 1:57. The boys’ 4×200 consisting of Evan Richardson, Noah Moseley, Paydon Dixon and Michael Clayton was also third in 1:42.

Shea finished third in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 4 inches. Madison Lawson was third in the 100 hurdles in 18.85.
