The Houston Lions Club hosted the District 26-1 cabinet meeting last Saturday.  

The districts includes all of southeast Missouri and there were approximately 40 Lions from 15 clubs in attendance. Leaders gave reports on their activities for the past quarter in supporting Lions Clubs International celebration of the 100th anniversary of the organization that was founded in Chicago in 1917 by businessman Melvin Jones. Since then the organization has grown to the largest service club in the world with more than 4.5 million members in more than 200 countries. 

Bob Wilson, district governor from the Dixon Lions Club, presented Melvin Jones Fellowship award to two local Lions: Houston’s past president, James “Jay” Brown and treasurer Robert “Bob” Krantz.  He also presented current Houston club president and former district governor Don Shelhammer with the Centennial Award for recruiting new members and helping form a new club in Licking.
