6:19 p.m.  – Following a closure due to flooding, traffic is now running head-to-head (one lane in each direction) on U.S. 63 in Howell County between West Plains and Willow Springs.

9:54 a.m. – Here are the latest road closings in Texas County

Texas County:

  • Route EE-from Route 181 to Route AD
  • Route BB-at Boiling Spring Access

7:27 a.m. –  Eastbound Interstate 44, between Highway 100 and I-270, is open to traffic. All interstates in Missouri that were closed due to flooding are now open.

I-44 has been underwater from flooding of the Meramec River since early Tuesday morning. The eastbound I-44 exit to Highway 141 remains closed.

Westbound I-44 opened before Thursday evening rush hour. Westbound I-44 exit to Soccer Park remains closed, as does the westbound I-44 exit to Highway. 141 in St. Louis County.

THURSDAY

4:33 p.m. The latest highway closings in Texas County:

  • Highway EE-from Highway 181 to Route AD
  • Highway BB-at Boiling Spring Access
  • Highway U-South Prong Jacks Fork; near Chapel Road to Shelton Road

4:29 p.m. – More than 220 roads remain closed across the state. The westbound direction of Interstate 44 from I-270 to Highway 100 in St. Louis/Franklin counties is open to traffic by evening rush today. The eastbound direction of I-44 remains closed and there is no estimate on its reopening.  Interstate 55 in St. Louis opened to traffic this morning. Motorists should check for road closures on the Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org before traveling.

2:18 p.m. – Ozark National Scenic Riverways is closed due to extensive damage to facilities and unsafe conditions caused by the widespread flooding in the region. 

“At the height of the flood the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers rivers crested almost 10’ above historic highs, causing unprecedented damage to park facilities and surrounding communities.  “We have not seen flooding of this severity in the park before,” Superintendent Larry Johnson said. “The extent of damage is sobering, and we have a lot of work to do.”

2:15 p.m. – Fort Leonard Wood’s East Gate is slated to re-open Monday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Waggener Gate, also known as the West Gate, is scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday for vehicle barrier maintenance.

2:08 p.m. – Keith Follin, emergency management director, reports Sackett Road and Harry is closed. “Sackett is closed for about a mile past Harry,” Follin said.

10:02 a.m. – The Missouri Department of Transportation reports 233 roads are closed in the state this morning. MoDot says, “Check your route for flood closures before you travel at traveler.modot.org/map/.”

•9:04 a.m. – Gov. Eric Greitens will visit West Plains at 11:30 a.m. today to thank volunteers and visit with the people in town. A previous visit scheduled for Monday could not occur due to a sinkhole that opened up, preventing travel on the route.

“The people of West Plains are strong,” said Greitens. “Their town has come together in this storm to take care of each other. I’m looking forward to thanking and praying with the volunteers, first responders, and others who have been working to protect their friends and neighbors.”

8:59 a.m. – A Cabool bank was damaged by flooding. Here’s the story from the Cabool Enterprise.

8:50 a.m. – Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent of Houston Schools, says the district has no plans to release students early Thursday.

“We are monitoring radar and road conditions through the morning,” Moss said. “We do not plan to release early today because we feel conditions will improve as the day goes on.”

WEDNESDAY

•4:40 p.m. Texas County residents affected by flooding can now access a resource and information page on the website of U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill. The page provides Missourians with federal, state, and nonprofit resources to assist with shelter, travel and emergency planning information. For information on available resources, visit the McCaskill’s Flood Resources Page at mccaskill.senate.gov/flooding.

•4:32 p.m. – U.S. 63 south of Vienna in Maries County is back open to traffic after being closed due to flooding since Sunday.  The opening of U.S. 63 offers motorists the opportunity to take U.S. 63 to Jefferson City then U.S. 54 to Kingdom City to hit Interstate 70.

2:28 p.m. – The Houston High School baseball game Thursday at Busch Stadium has been postponed.

12:32 p.m. – Peace Chapel has canceled Wednesday night services due to “high water levels on roadways and forecast of continued rain.”

12:26 p.m. – The Texas County Office of Emergency Management is asking for low water crossings that are flooding to be reported on its Facebook page.

12:08 p.m. – Despite widespread damage, Boiling Springs Resort said it will be open by Memorial Day: “We’re not giving up. We are not quitting,” the group’s Facebook page said. “We’ll be open by Memorial Day weekend, even if it’s just tent camps and me selling beer out of an ice chest. If there’s an accessible river access, we will run float trips there. We lost our house but the Resort is still our home. It’s home to all of us, your families as well as ours.”

Cleanup has been announced for 10 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting.

11:19 a.m. – Terra Culley of Texas County 911 said its dispatchers answered 404 calls for assistance during a 48-hour period over the weekend.

11:01 a.m.A Texas County man is raffling off repurposed barnwood items to raise funds for flood victims

10:53 a.m. – Texas County Sheriff James Sigman said he and several county deputies were involved in multiple water rescues directly related to the event, mostly due to people trying to drive across deep, swift-moving water. There were no reported injuries or fatalities. Read the full story.

9:45 a.m. – The middle school SCA track meet has been rescheduled. Again. The event, which was planned for Tuesday and then moved to Wednesday, will now be Friday in Willow Springs. 

8:59 a.m. – Kevin Sees, who lives in Texas County near Willow Springs, submitted these photos of a four-acre lake he owns. During the heaviest rain Saturday, the lake dam was breached for about 15 minutes. “I restored the dam two years ago, so it was in perfect condition before the rain,” Sees said.

8:52 a.m. – Before replacing drywall and floor coverings in your flooded home, an University of Missouri Extension community emergency management specialist says to make sure building materials have had enough time to dry out.

•8:40 a.m. – Citizens unite to assist Houston business owners impacted by flash flooding.

•7:29 a.m. – Repairs to flood-damaged Interstate 44 at Hazelgreen in Laclede County are complete, and the interstate is back open to traffic at that location. Motorists can now travel I-44 across southern and mid-Missouri, but the interstate is still closed for 25 miles in St. Louis from Route 100 to Interstate 270.

TUESDAY

3:53 p.m. – Fort Leonard Wood’s East Gate remains closed due to the recent flooding of the Big Piney River. J Highway to the east of the access control point is now open; however, personnel may not enter or exit through the East Gate.

2:11 p.m. – Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent of Houston Schools, said there were no delays Tuesday morning with bus routes. He said only one area, Lundy Mill Crossing off Highway Z, is inaccessible by school busses.

2:06 p.m. – The City of West Plains, First Baptist Church-West Plains and Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief are joining together to assist victims of the recent storms in our area. Homeowners throughout West Plains and surrounding communities, including Howell, Ozark, Texas, Douglas, Shannon and Oregon counties can receive assistance in restoring their damaged properties. Assistance provided includes: structural damage assistance to homes, removal of downed trees, removal of ruined / damaged items, and reconstruction of affected portions of damaged homes.

2:04 p.m. – Due to road closures caused by flooding across Missouri and more forecasted rain, Fort Leonard Wood’s Earth Day celebration scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in Nutter Field House is cancelled.

12:24 p.m. – Classes have been canceled for the remainder of this week at Missouri State University-West Plains. They will resume Monday, May 8, university officials announced. All university offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 3.

•12:09 p.m. –  The Texas County Commission issued this statement:

 “Due to the recent flooding events throughout Texas County anyone that incurred damage to their homes or other personal property are urged to document the damages. The State Emergency Management Agency  (SEMA) will require lots of photographs of the damage as well as documentation for expenses incurred to make the repairs.

“This will only apply if the declaration includes private property. 9:34 a.m. – The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce has canceled Saturday’s citywide yard sale due to damage to the road at the fairgrounds.

9:09 a.m. – Due to the forecast of heavy rains, First Baptist Church Awanas has been cancelled for Wednesday night. Activities will be moved to the next week, May 10, and family night and final night will be May 17.

9:02 a.m.The City of Houston has reported bridge damage and pump out at the water treatment facility. There were nine power outages Friday and Saturday.

8:59 a.m. – Citizens who have lost their homes due to the weekend storms and flooding can apply for a reduction in their assessed value. Texas County Assessor Debbie James said the “occupancy law” allows for the application when a home is lost due to nature disasters such as flooding, fire, tornado or earthquake. It takes effect, she said, for unoccupied or uninhabitable residential structures.

“You can apply for a reduction in your assessed value based on information you provide to my office,” James said. “You may call and request a form to be mailed or stop by my office and we can assist you.”

James said photos and the property location can be emailed to assessor@texascountymissouri.gov. Her office number is 417-967-4709.

“The damage will be assessed at a pro-rated amount once we determine the residential structure is uninhabitable or unoccupied,” James said. “This is a difficult time for all who has been affected by these raging flood waters, and we are here to help with the necessary paperwork. It’s important to contact us as quickly as possible so our total assessed value loss can be reported to the proper departments.”

•7:15 a.m. — Interstate 44 between I-270 in St. Louis County and Highway 100/Gray Summit in Franklin County is closed.  The interstate closed due to the rising waters of the Meramec River. 

Westbound I-44 is closed at I-270 while eastbound I-44 is closed at Highway 100/Gray Summit.  Local traffic only will be allowed westbound to Bowles and eastbound local traffic will be allowed to Pacific, Eureka and Highway 109.  Interstate traffic cannot get through this area.  Highway 100 between Gray Summit and I-270 will be the alternate route for I-44 travelers.  Trucks traveling across the state are encouraged to take I-70.

MONDAY

•5:28 p.m. – The Missouri State Highway Patrol responds to Highway 32 west of Licking after barricades had been removed from the roadway near the Mason Bridge. Huge portions of the pavement are missing.

4:36 p.m. – Fort Leonard Wood announced its East Gate is closed until further notice. The unscheduled leave policy is in effect for Fort Leonard Wood personnel who are not critical and/or essential as previously identified by their supervisor on Tuesday due to several closed and flooded roads in the area.

4:18 p.m. – The Missouri Department of Transportation says Interstate 44 near Lebanon could be closed for days.

1:53 p.m. – The Houston High School baseball team’s game Monday at Hartville has been canceled. 

1:50 p.m. – Rep. Robert Ross said he is working with state and local officials to ensure his constituents have the assistance and resources they need to cope with the severe flooding that has impacted the 142nd district, and many parts of the state. Ross is = coordinating efforts with Gov. Eric Greitens, as well as local mayors and county commissioners, in an effort to direct resources to areas where they are most needed.

Ross said he is encouraging anyone in need of assistance in dealing with the flooding and devastation to contact his office for assistance. He said he and his assistant are ready and willing to assist folks with getting connected with the resources and help they need. Ross also noted that individuals dealing with flood waters can seek help by accessing information on the SEMA website: http://sema.dps.mo.gov/programs/area_coordinator.php.

1:45 p.m. – A sinkhole has closed Highway 17 between Mountain View and West Plains, causing governor to postpone West Plains trip. He will head to Van Buren.

11:37 a.m. – About 60 residents rallied Monday morning to assist with cleanup at Ozark Resale Company, which lost about 60 percent of its inventory due to flooding. It’s owners, Mike and Kim Brannan, were overcome with emotion at the response.

11:33 a.m. – The blood drive today at Licking High School has been canceled.

•11:08 a.m. – Flooding from this past weekend coupled with additional rainfall predicted for the middle of the week has forced the postponement of the Kids’ Fishing Day events scheduled for this Saturday (May 6) at Bennett Spring and Montauk state parks. Bennett Spring has rescheduled its Kids’ Fishing Day event for June 10, Montauk’s event will be Aug. 12.

•8:58 a.m. – As floodwaters receded Sunday, heavy damage remained at Ozark Resale Company in Houston. 

8:49 a.m. – As floodwaters recede in the area, Van Buren battles rising waters.

8:46 a.m. – Video Sunday evening shows the heavy traffic through U.S. 63 in Houston as traffic was rerouted from Interstate 44.

•8:18 a.m. — Highway 106 in Shannon County is now closed from Alley Spring to Route E due to a slide. From Summersville, travelers will need to take Route D to Route 19 to get to Eminence.

•8:16 a.m  – Gov. Eric Greitens activated the Missouri National Guard on Sunday to aid in rescue and recovery efforts statewide after heavy rains caused flash flooding in many areas, particularly southern Missouri.

SUNDAY

•9:54 p.m. – Sen. Roy Blunt released the following statement on the damaging flooding across southern Missouri:

“My thoughts are with all of the families and communities that have been affected by the widespread flooding in our state,” Blunt said. “I am grateful for all of the first responders and emergency management personnel who are working around the clock to keep people safe. With dangerous conditions expected to continue, and additional areas at risk, I will continue being in close contact with Governor Greitens, and state and local officials, to monitor the situation. While we do not yet know the full extent of the damage, I stand ready to advocate for any federal assistance that may be needed once those assessments are made.”

•8:19 p.m. – Summersville and Licking school districts announce classes are canceled Monday.

•8:15 p.m. – Fort Leonard Wood’s East Gate is closed and the unscheduled leave policy is in effect for Fort Leonard Wood personnel who are not critical and/or essential as previously identified by their supervisor on Monday due to several closed and flooded roads in the area.

•8:04 p.m. – Mark Twain National Forest has closed all water-based recreation sites on the forest. Via a press release, park personnel said, “Anyone traveling through Mark Twain National Forest needs to keep in mind the dangers of high water.  Do not attempt to drive across moving water at low-water crossings.”

•5:11 p.m. –Texas County was one of the areas that received the most precipitation in Missouri, reports the National Weather Service in Springfield.

•4:26 p.m. – Heavy rains over the weekend have closed 350 roads across the state. Currently Interstate 44 is closed between Rolla and Lebanon and is not expected to reopen until mid to late week. 

•3:31 p.m. – Sen. Claire McCaskill on storm: “This is a scary situation for communities across our state. But we’re seeing again that Missourians are resilient, and we know how to come together when homes and lives are at risk. I’m thankful for that, and I’m praying for the families affected. Everyone should pay close attention to guidance from first responders and local officials. And I’m ready to assist with any federal resources that might be needed as the flood waters recede, and our communities begin to recover.”

•3:25 p.m. The Licking Fire Department was called after a vehicle was reported stuck in water on Highway VV.

•2:30 p.m. – All eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 44 near Jerome in Phelps County (mile marker 172) are closed due to flooding. Jerome is located just west of Rolla. Traffic will be routed though Houston.

•1:45 p.m. – At 4 p.m., Gov. Eric Greitens will hold a press conference to address the severe rainstorms and dangerous flash flooding across the state. The conference will take place at the State Emergency Operations Center.

•11:30 a.m. – Due to a widespread telephone outage, a temporary number has been established for Troop G Headquarters in Willow Springs. The number is 417 252-6000.

•11:23 a.m. Floodwaters from the Gasconade River are expected to close the westbound lanes of Interstate 44 near Hazelgreen in Laclede County. The eastbound lanes are also likely to go under water this morning. The interstate could be closed through Monday evening. That traffic will flow through Texas County, MoDOT says.

•10:32 a.m. – A resort at Boilings Springs along the Big Piney River southwest of Licking is destroyed, and the houses swept away. The river stands at 36 feet. Onlookers can’t believe the storm’s wrath there. Homes are gone, as well as the owners’ double-wide trailer. 

A general store is visible, but was under water earlier.

•9:54 a.m. – A Houston business, Ozark Resale Company, that was impacted by Saturday’s flooding is seeking the public’s help. Here’s what was shared this morning on Facebook: “Humbly asking for volunteers on Monday May 1st to assist in clean up at Ozark Resale Company. 417-217-4287. Thank you.”

9:47 a.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the public should expect increased traffic as traffic is diverted from Interstate 44.

•9:42 a.m. – The Kansas City Technical Rescue and Swift Water Rescue Team stayed overnight at the Houston Rural Fire Department, according to Jeremy St. John, Texas County Emergency Management director.

•9:40 a.m. – The latest road conditions in Missouri.

•8:55 a.m. – Faith Fellowship church has canceled Sunday morning services. The church is located just past Dogs Bluff on Highway 17, where the roadway is currently open but was closed twice the past 24 hours.

•8:50 a.m. – The Texas County Republicans said today’s Lincoln Days will be held as scheduled at 1:30 p.m. at Licking High School. The event was postponed from Saturday night.

•8:35 a.m. – Authorities said I-44 traffic will soon divert through Texas County on U.S. 63. 

•8:35 a.m. – Here are the current road closings in Texas County:

  • Route BB-at Boiling Spring Access/Big Piney River
  • Route M-near Roubidoux Creek
  • Route U-near South Prong Jack’s Fork
  • Route 32-from Hillcrest Road to Mason Drive
  • Route 17-from Ridge Road to Lily Road; near U.S. 63 at Houston.

8:30 a.m. – Emergency personnel were sent to Highways VV and 137, where a vehicle was stalled. No one was at risk. One person was in a vehicle in about 150 foot out in water.
