STRONG SHOWING BY HHS ART STUDENTS

Houston High School students recently participated with 12 other school districts in the Alpha Rho Tau district art competition. More than 1,500 pieces of art were submitted.

Destiny Pounds, a senior art portfolio student, earned 13 ribbons and placed second overall in points. Other HHS honors included:

• First-place ribbons: Pounds and Huff.

• Second-place ribbons: Pounds, Karson Miller and Elizabeth Scott.

• Third-place ribbons: Pounds and Shaniah Phillips.

• Fourth-place ribbons: Pounds, Jordan Benson and Phillips.

• Honorable mention: Stephani Crewse, Shelby Ozier and Vicky Tucker.

Huff, Scott, Phillips and Macy Smith earned student choice awards.

DRUM MAJOR NAMED FOR HHS BAND

Nevada Leighty has been selected as the drum major for the 2017-’18 Tiger Pride Band.
