The Houston tennis team beat Liberty when it mattered most.
The Tigers, who twice lost to Liberty during the regular season, returned the favor Monday with a 5-2 district victory.
“This was a good victory for us,” HHS tennis coach John Jordan said.
Houston won two of the three doubles matches and three of the four singles matches. The district format includes one doubles set to eight and best two-of-three in singles.
In doubles play, Isaiah Buse and Kyler Ramsey cruised to an 8-2 victory. Trenton Smith and Marley Stoops won 8-6.
Buse had a 6-3, 6-0 singles victory. Smith topped his opponent 6-3, 6-1 and Grady Todd battled back for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win.
Ramsey was leading his singles match 6-2, 2-0 when play was stopped as Houston got its fifth team point.
The team victory was the fourth of the season for Houston, which entered Class 1 District 9 as the fifth seed.
The Tigers played top-seeded Willow Springs (14-3) on Tuesday.
