A man accused of killing one man and seriously injuring another in Texas County last year — and then later escaping from the Texas County Jail — will stand trial next month in Maries County.
Daniel G. Campbell, 39, was in court last week for a pre-trial conference. Circuit Judge John Beger set July 10-13 for the trial dates. Campbell is already in South Central Correctional Center at Licking after his probation was revoked on a tampering and burglary charge unrelated to the shooting. He received a five-year term.
Campbell was re-captured without incident in November after he escaped from the jail. His capture in rural northwest Texas County was one day after he walked out an open door at the jail, where construction was under way.
It was the second time Campbell had led authorities on a manhunt. He was on the run for 70 hours after the Boiling Springs shooting. He was arrested Oct. 25 without incident.
