The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1218 in Willow Springs hosted a fly-in and camp out earlier this month.
Pilots were invited from Missouri and surrounding states to fly their aircraft into Willow Springs Municipal Airport from June 2-4 and pitch their tent under their wing. All meals were served in the chapter hangar. Meals were provided by donation.
Despite the threat of thunderstorms, more than 20 aircraft flew in and 100 members and guests were in attendance. Musical entertainment and a fish fry were part of the weekend.
EAA Chapter 1218 was formed in 1998 with 18 charter members. It has grown to more than 100 members in a nine-county area. In October 2006, the chapter dedicated the meeting room/hangar facility on the west side of the airport.
The chapter said its goals are to provide aviation educational opportunities, an atmosphere for recreational aviation activities, promote and encourage aviation safety in the design, construction, restoration and operation of all types of aircraft.
EAA provides member programs and activities that allow members to meet others with the same interest. For more information, log onto www.1218.eaachapter.org or call 417-469-4212.
