Summersville Friends of the Library held its fourth annual “Cowboy Roundup” last Saturday.
Local cowboy Dusty Bell kicked off the event by bringing his roping steer to teach the little cowpokes a few roping skills. Eugene Simeroth provided two show heifers for exhibit and taught some training tips with his two dogs.
The McGregor family brought baby goats to add to the petting ranch.
Doreen Weise made a lot of children happy by bringing her miniature horse, Bubba, for rides. Kathie Cox taught a line dance before Bea Hall read a book about a cowboy and an ornery cow while everyone chowed-down on cookies and lemonade around the “campfire.”
The Name-the-Twin-Calves contest, sponsored by Eugene Simeroth, was won by Sarah Richardson, age 7, with “Moonlight” and Lanie Greear, age 8, with “Dash.”
Each girl was given $5 as a prize. The calves will be officially registered with the chosen names.
The Summersvill branch of the Texas County Library is located at 480 First St., on the south side of the square, next door to Open Door in Summersville.
