Meeting in special session, Houston’s city council voted to reduce taxes. The 1967 tax levy was set for $1.70 on $100 assessed valuation, a decrease of a nickel.

Scott Rust, a former HHS star athlete, will find some familiar faces when he joins the Rolla High School faculty as an assistant coach. Lyman Brown, another former Houston standout, coaches track, and Bob Ballinger, former HHS faculty member, the basketball mentor.

Dave Barnes of Licking won the Houston Golf Club championship with a 76. Bob Cameron, Cabool, was second with a 78; and Dr. Charles Ernest, Houston, was third with a 79.

A new highway patrolman at Mountain Grove is Carl Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Watson of Elk Creek. He is a graduate of Houston High School.

In a farewell notice, R.D. “Dick” Fisher of Willow Springs, who sold his theatres here to Mr. and Mrs. James Taylor, said his first movies to be shown was “State Fair” with Will Rogers and his last, “Hotel,” a period of 33 years in show business.
