A replacement chipper model similar to this one will be purchased by the City of Houston.

The City of Houston has won a $20,000 grant to purchase a brush chipper, which will replace one that is 20 years old.

The South Central Solid Waste Management District announced it was funding the request, which involves replacement of the current unit, which needs repairs and replacement parts are often difficult to locate. The city will sell the old chipper, and proceeds will be used toward the equipment purchase.

The city’s chipper has kicked into use often after storms have downed trees and limbs this year.

Elaine Campbell, city development director, wrote the grant application.
