Last year’s Houston High School volleyball team has been awarded for its academic excellence.

The 2016-’17 Lady Tigers received the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for achieving more than a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. HHS coach Loran Richardson said her team’s GPA was higher than 3.5.

“This award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom,” said Betsey McCamish of AVCA.

Team members receiving the recognition were: Kelly Hubbs, Janae Huff, Melody Buse, Alexis Choate, Darby Bell, Kennedy Campbell, Tara Stanton, Brooke McCown, Chloe Hunninghake, Sevanna Rowland, Natalie Caldwell, Jazelle Brannan, Alyssa Hayes and Emily Shea.
