U.S. Marshal Service

Texas County Jail escapee Christopher Hunt was taken into custody without incident Wednesday afternoon inside an associate’s home in Lexington, Ky.

Mike Stokes, of the Springfield office of the U.S. Marshals Service, said Hunt was arrested at 2 p.m. The apprehension ended a 10-day hunt for the fugitive who escaped June 26 from a transport van.

“They went to the house, knocked on the door and took him into custody with no issues,” Stokes said. “He did not put up a fight.”

Stokes said the marshals became involved June 28 and worked closely alongside the Department of Corrections, Texas County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol. He said marshals developed a lead on the Lexington house based on Hunt’s associates.

“A lot of information came from the Department of Corrections,” Stokes said.

Hunt, 33, escaped custody as he was returning from a court appearance in Phelps County. He had entered a guilty plea and received a 20-year sentence in Phelps County Circuit Court. He was charged with escape from custody with a dangerous weapon, dangerous instrument or by holding hostage. It’s a Class A felony.
