Dr. Matthew A. Brown, M.D. FAAFP, family physician at Mercy Clinic in Houston and inpatient provider at Texas County Memorial Hospital, has earned the “Recognition of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine.”

Established in 2009 and jointly administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine, the national professional designation recognizes physicians who distinguish themselves in the provision of high quality hospital inpatient services which reflects the most up-to-date medical knowledge in the safest and most cost effective manner. Fewer than 20 percent of full-time hospitalists nationally currently hold the designation.

Achieving this designation required the submission of several thousand inpatient encounters, sitting for a six-and-a-half hour certification examination and pursuing additional training in physician leadership, quality assurance, cost containment, patient safety and systems improvement.
