The Texas County Jail has a new administrator, the Texas County Commission heard July 12.
Jennifer Tomaszewki, who began working late last year in the sheriff’s department, was hired to oversee the 72-bed facility, according to minutes that were released last Thursday. The news was relayed to the commission from Texas County Sheriff James Sigman, who has day-to-day oversight of the jail.
Tomaszewki, the former manager of Bark Plaza in Houston, replaces Pam Tripp, who resigned in early July. She will earn $13 an hour.
In other personnel matters heard by the commission:
• Learned that Nathan Alkire, a jailer, was fired effective July 5. He was the driver of a transportation van when inmate Christopher Hunt escaped June 26 –– sparking a manhunt –– near the Phelps and Texas counties line. Hunt was taken into custody without incident inside an associate’s home in Lexington, Ky., on the same day Alkire was fired.
• Heard that Glenda Campbell had resigned effective July 23 as a jailer.
• Approved the hiring of Caroline Garner as a part-time jailer.
