The Texas County Genealogical and Historical Society met Aug. 11 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Houston. Thirteen members and guests attended the meeting presented by Merlyn Seeley, better known as Spirit Walker.

He and his family are pursuing a healthy way of life. They named their home site Dogwood Hollow Homestead. They use a wood stove to cook their organic food with cast iron cookware. They are self-sufficient by raising a garden, fruit trees, canned meat and having chickens, rabbits, ducks and turkeys. He finds plants to use for medicines. Their lives are much like generations before us.

The next meeting is Sept. 8.
