The Houston volleyball team fell to 0-2 Thursday night with a 25-19, 25-14 home loss to Cuba.

Janae Huff led the Lady Tigers with four assists. Melody Buse had a team-high seven digs. Kennedy Campbell had one block.

Kelly Hubbs, Sevanna Rowland and Viviana Guerra each had one ace.

HHS led the opening set 16-15 after Rowland’s ace. But Cuba ended the set with an 11-3 run.

Cuba scored the first eight points of the second set and cruised to the win.

“The first set we played tough and did some really good things,” Lady Tigers coach Loran Richardson said. “Unfortunately, we missed five serves, which kills momentum. The second set, there was no effort and we made error after error. They let themselves get down and couldn’t mentally pull out of it.”

Houston plays Saturday in the Branson Invitational. The Lady Tigers will face Summit Academy, Branson and Clinton in pool play.

“Are we where we need to be right now? No,” Richardson said. “Are we capable of doing more and winning games? Absolutely. We are not going to believe the lie that we can’t win. We are already better and will continue to improve.”
