Joyce Herington Cole, 95, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at Houston House.

She was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Clark and Hazel Leach Herington. She and Henry D. Cole were married Oct. 6, 1939.

She graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1939.

She and her husband, Henry, were ordained ministers of the Church of God. She was a speaker, teacher and wrote children’s Sunday School curriculum while serving as a board member of the Church of God publishing, Warner Press. She and Henry pastored congregations in Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Colorado.

In their retirement years, they were managers of the Genesis Pointe senior adult condominiums in Lake Wales, Fla. They returned to Houston in 2007 to due Henry’s failing health to be near their oldest daughter. They attended the First Church of God in Houston.

She was an avid reader and writer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; four sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Cole of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Kaye Miller of Hubertus, Wisc., and Judith Powell of Houston; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services were Tuesday Aug. 29, in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
