A 10-month-old baby girl had a high level of meth and other drugs in her system after tests administered following an investigation by the Missouri Department of Family Services and the Houston Police Department.

A DFS investigator requested July 10 that officers accompany him to an apartment on Grand Avenue regarding a report of methamphetamine, marijuana and unsanitary living conditions where the 10-month-old toddler resided.

Two officers and the DFS representative made contact with a 27-year-man and 23-year-old woman who live there. The pair gave the officer consent to search. During the search, a box containing marijuana and a baggie containing meth were found under a chair in the kitchen within easy reach of the infant.

When the investigation was complete, the man and woman were arrested, and the child was removed from the home and placed with a family member.

A drug test was done on the girl, and results received July 24 indicated she had a high level of meth in her system, along with THC and amphetamine.

A report and probable cause statement were sent to the county prosecutor.
