TEXAS COUNTY FARM BUREAU
The Texas County Farm Bureau meeting began with acknowledgment of the I.C. Keeney family and Doc’s many years of service with the Farm Bureau. The family was presented with a plaque with a personal picture of Doc, an award from Sen. Mike Cunningham acknowledging his service, an award from Rep. Robert Ross was read and several members spoke about Doc and his personal assistance to each one over the years. He was truly a vet with a heart and the time to help people concerned with animals.
U. S. Rep. Jason Smith was the guest speaker and also had personal comments about Doc. He presented interesting thoughts about his legislative activity, spoke of his relationship with the president and made members aware of upcoming efforts on behalf of the rural areas. He is almost a neighbor and knows what the area needs.
A steak dinner was enjoyed by approximately 100 people. There were a variety of potluck dishes and desserts brought in by members.
Business: Re-elected to the board were Betty Adams, Gus Adams, Primrose Casey and Kim Kosmicke, and Richard Best was elected vice president. Joe Whetstine, who has served many years, retired and didn’t seek re-election. Terry Wolfe of Houston was elected.
Mike Luerssen reminded members that the Ag Expo is coming Oct. 3. All fourth-graders of each of the schools in Texas County are invited to the fairgrounds each year and the Farm Bureau appreciates the help of the FFA students to guide the 400 or 500 younger students to the various booths set up by the University Extension, 4-H, Conservation Department, U.S. Forestry and many individuals with information on horses, cows, sheep, pigs and other agriculture.
A special thanks to Nancy Campbell and Shirley Best for decorating and taking care of the food; and to Gerald Campbell for cooking the steaks.
