The Houston High School volleyball team lost its conference opener 25-15, 25-19 Tuesday night at Liberty.

Alexis Choate had three aces and Janae Huff handed out four assists for the Lady Tigers (3-11, 0-1 South Central Association).

Tara Stanton had two kills and Melody Buse had a team-best seven digs.

“We’ve got to learn to play when people are watching – when there is pressure,” HHS coach Loran Richardson said. “In practice, we look great. We are communicating, moving, swinging hard. Then we get in a game and sometimes it looks like we’ve never played before.

“It’s a mental game for us right now. We’ve still got a lot of games we can win this season, we just have to put our preparation into practice.”

Houston’s next game – also a conference opponent – is Thursday at Cabool.
