Military veteran

Joseph Frank Haemker, 66, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at his home in Tyrone.

He was born June 10, 1951, in Edina, son of Fred and Mary Darlinger Haemker. He and Elaine De Stevens were married April 27, 1985, in San Pedro, Calif.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1968 shortly after attending Narbonne High School in Los Angeles, Calif. After marrying his wife, they moved back to his native Missouri after more than 30 years of civil service in the Coast Guard.

He attended the Houston United Methodist Church, where he and his wife were active in youth and puppet ministry.

He loved working, food and spending quality time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Haemker.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Elaine of Tyrone; his sons, Neal, Scott, David and Nick; two daughters, Liz Rud and Julie Morell; 20 grandchildren; two brothers, Eddy and Jim; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Thursday, Sept. 28, at Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Lippstreu officiating. Burial with military honors was Friday in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville.
