Robert Douglas Guthrie, 75, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at his home in Licking.
He was born March 24, 1942, in Moro, Ark., son of Pastor Raymond Dixie and Edith Lorene Perry Guthrie. He and Judie Nelson were married in 1963.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at the age of 8. He was active in the church and was ordained in 1977 as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Laveen, Ariz. He also served in the First Southern Baptist Church in Payson, Ariz.
He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1961. He joined the Navy and served as an aviation machinist’s mate for four years. He was discharged in 1965 and worked in the aerospace industry. He was on the Apollo mechanical backup team.
He and his wife, Judy, moved to Arizona in 1985 to operate mobile home parks and a laundromat. He retired in 2012 and moved to Licking.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy; three sons, Chuck of Nevada, Troy of New Mexico and Robert Jr. of Califor nia; a foster son, Joey Rose of Colorado; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Raymond of California; four sisters, Mary Whitson of Arizona, Inez of California, Sylvia Whittaker of Texas and Lorraine Simpson of Missouri; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Licking First Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Lilly officiating. Entombment will be Friday, Oct. 6, in Phoenix, Ariz. Services were under direction of Fox Funeral Home.
