A hunger walk is planned for Oct. 29 in Houston.

The Houston Lions Club has announced that the 25th annual Texas County Hunger Walk is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29.

The event will begin at the Lone Star Plaza in downtown Houston, with registration beginning at 1 p.m.

The walk raises money for the Texas County Food Pantry, the Blessings in a Backpack weekend food program, the United Community Help Center in Licking and the Licking Love Packs.

Church groups, families, youth groups, organizations, businesses, individuals and anyone else who would like help someone in need is encouraged to participate. Each group or individual participating should raise funds before the event and bring the money with them the day of the event.

The group that raises the most money will win the highly sought after “Stinky Shoe Award.” Cash and checks are accepted, with checks payable to Community Foundation of the Ozarks (or CFO), which is the fiscal agent for the event.

Hunger Walk packets will be available starting Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Texas County Food Pantry in Houston or the United Community Help Center in Licking.

Organizers indicate there will be a different course this year, and course information will be available with the packets.

Organizations and individuals are being sought to sponsor the Hunger Walk. To serve on the Hunger Walk committee, become a sponsor or for more information, call Bennie Cook at 417-260-2382.
