Gentry Construction Co. announced that the new vo-ag building for Houston High School is about 90 percent completed and will be in use in November.
Tpr. Blaine Brower — stationed in Houston for the past eight years — has been promoted to the rank of corporal. Also promoted to corporal was E.D. Elmore of Winona, who was formerly stationed in Houston.
Houston lost to Thayer, 33-13, breaking a five-game winning streak. Steve Hutcheson passed to Joe Henry for one touchdown while Ernie Postlewait plunged for the other marker.
The local Masonic Lodge held a celebration — its 100th anniversary.
Western Telephone Co. said construction has started on a new telephone exchange to service the Raymondville area. The exchange — expected to be completed in January — will be linked to Houston and there will be no toll charge.
The Rev. Charles Long, pastor of the Houston Church of God for the past eight years, will be the minister at a new church in St. Marys, Ohio.
At the grand opening of the OK Tire Store, Ruthene Austell won the big prize — four new tires. Other winners were Clark Dorman, Licking; Jessie McGowan, Roby; and Lee Odle and Alma Bell, both of Houston.
