The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A deputy was dispatched Sept. 9 to assist the Missouri State Highway Patrol at Highways K and KK at Hartshorn regarding a report of people drag racing up and down Highway KK.
Upon arrival, officers observed that a car show was going on at the location. Contact was made with the show’s organizer and he was advised not to let people race on the roadway.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 10 p.m. Oct. 8 regarding a report of two vehicles and people yelling at the end of a driveway on Highway B near Houston. When the officer arrived, no vehicles were there.
•Justin K. Buchholz, 24, of 20013 Highway B at Raymondville, was issued a citation for fourth-degree assault after an incident at his residence involving a 19-year-old female at about 12:30 a.m. Oct. 8.
•A 71-year-old Houston man called at about 3:15 p.m. Oct. 7 to report a large explosion across the highway from his U.S. 63 residence.
An investigating officer spoke with several neighbors who also claimed to have heard the blast. The officer reportedly drove around on several county roads in the area, was unable to find any evidence of a large explosion.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 2:15 p.m. Oct. 4 regarding a report of people shooting guns in an unsafe direction near the Success School on Highway 17. The officer made contact with a man at the location who stated he was sighting in his deer riffle and showed that he had been firing in a safe direction at a large dirt pile away from any buildings.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 12:30 a.m. Sept. 9 regarding a report of a man leaving Sheila’s Bar on U.S. 63 north of Licking without paying for a bar tab.
Employees at the bar told the officer the man had run up a tab of about $81 and presented a debit card as the payment method. The employees said that after the man left, his card was declined.
The investigating deputy reported that a couple of hours later the man was arrested for driving while intoxicated by Licking police. The deputy told the man that if he returned to the bar to settle up, ownership would not press theft charges.
The man reportedly chose not to return, so a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking theft charges.
