Gladene Sue Hoit, 81, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at her home in Tulsa, Okla.

She was born April 23, 1936, just outside of Houston, daughter of Charlie and Hassie McKinney Minson. She and Kenneth Richard Hoit were married Aug. 13, 1965, in Lee’s Summit.

She graduated from Houston High School and then attained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield. She pursued graduate work in special education at the University of Denver.

She taught at numerous elementary schools, including Caufield, Peace Valley, Oakgrove and Blue Springs. She also taught special education in Lee’s Summit. After moving to Tulsa, Okla., in 1971, she taught Bible in a local Christian school and also served as a substitute teacher at Tulsa Union schools.

Cooking, baking and family were Gladene’s passions. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and fishing.

She shared her love of the Lord as she served in several churches through the years. She worked in the church nursery, taught a children’s Sunday school class and working on the staff

of a church camp and Vacation Bible School. In addition, she also served on various church committees.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Kenneth “Ken” Hoit of the home; a son, Tim Hoit of Owasso, Okla.; a sister, Murlene Shearholdt of Springfield; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at South Tulsa Baptist Church. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa.
