The annual Texas County Hunger Walk took place Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Lone Star Plaza in downtown Houston. Several residents came out to help raise more than $2,100 to help families in Texas County. Paul Meier from Licking raised the most money and won the “Stinky Shoe Award.”

The walk was organized by the Houston Lions Club and the funds raised will benefit the Texas County Food Pantry, Blessings in a Backpack Weekend Food Program, United Community Help Center in Licking and the Love Packs Weekend Food Program in Licking.

Several businesses and individuals sponsored the walk, including Justin Shelby – State Farm Insurance, Progressive Ozark Bank, Landmark Bank, VIP Properties, Sun Solar, Romines Ford, Mayes Chevrolet in Aurora, Wehr Ford, Corner Express, Wayne and Kim Bittle, Mitchell Insurance and Cook Farms.

“The Houston Lions Club would like to thank the sponsors, donors and everyone who helped make this fundraiser successful,” said event organizer Bennie Cook.
