Ruth Lewene Atchley McVicker, 74, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield following a severe stroke.
She was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Dexter, N.M., daughter of Tom and Maggie Atchley. She and Thomas “Tom” McVicker were married April 5, 1961, in Mountain View.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
She was a registered nurse for more than 40 years. She worked at many local hospitals, Dr. Coffee’s office in Willow Springs, Cox Health ER in Springfield and was a traveling ER nurse.
She and her husband, Tom, operated a successful greenhouse business for almost 40 years from their home and farm in Shannon County. She had flower shop businesses in Mountain View and Willow Springs.
She loved to laugh, sing, dance, cook and visit with her family and friends. She enjoyed preparing food for the Sunday family meals, family events and church activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Bill McConnell; and five siblings, Donald Atchley, Norman “Derwood” Atchley, Tommy Atchley, Leallen Atchley and Alta Bales.
Survivors include her husband, Tom; two sons, Paul of Hannibal and Dave of Mountain View; five grandchildren; a greatgrandson; and a host of other family members and friends.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at First Baptist Church in Mountain View with a dinner to follow. Services were under the direction of Yaber Mortuary.
